If you’ve been working hard to overcome Candida overgrowth, you might be wondering—how do I actually know when it’s gone? Today, we’re going to talk about the key signs that your body is healing and Candida is no longer in control.
Over the past 25 years I’ve been trusted by well over 1000 people to help them treat Candida, and one of the most common questions that I get is, “How do I know when my Candida is gone?”
This is a very, very, important question, and it’s not always as easy as you might think. Or maybe you don’t think that it’s easy. Either way, I’ll get into what you should look for, whether or not you should test, and how to know where you are at in your treatment program.
I suspect that if you’ve tried to talk with your doctor about this topic, you’ve likely been brushed off or misunderstood. And you probably haven’t gotten much clear information about how to know if your Candida is actually gone, or at least back in its proper place and in balance with the rest of your microbiome. So, let’s jump into that.
One of the first things and most important things to pay attention to are your symptoms. The symptoms that you are experiencing that are being caused by a Candida overgrowth are the single most important indicator that you have.
This means that you will know more than your doctor when it comes to knowing how well your treatment is going. What you need is a doctor who listens to you and believes you. If you have that, then you can get good feedback about how much progress you are making. But if you don’t have that, you still have your own knowledge about how you are feeling. Don’t underestimate that.
This video doesn’t get into all of the various symptoms that can be caused by Candida (and there are a LOT of symptoms that you can experience from a Candida overgrowth), but the single most important thing is to pay close attention to how much your symptoms is improving.
This is sometimes easier said than done. Symptoms vary a lot from person to person, and they can come and go. And if you didn’t already know, it’s not all unusual for your symptoms to get worse, much worse, before they get better. Or for you to even develop new symptoms during your treatment.
I cover ALL of the various symptoms that can occur, including how and what can get worse during treatment, in my course on Candida, which you can access in the link here. I promise that it will answer all your questions, so be sure to check it out.
Now if your symptoms are improving, then your treatment is going well. But when is the Candida gone?
When your symptoms are completely gone, that is a clue that your Candida is gone. So, it’s important to tune into your body and pay close attention to how you are feeling. But it’s not a foolproof clue, which I’ll explain in a moment.
Now if you want to see this reflected on test results, this can be challenging. Testing for Candida is notoriously challenging.
There are a lot of different tests and ways to figure out if you have Candida, and each has its strengths and weakness. It would take far too long to get into that here, but I do cover all of that in my course on Candida that I mentioned, which you can access in the link here.
Regardless of testing, probably the most important clue is to pay attention to your symptoms. And it may take weeks, months, or even longer to treat your Candida, regardless of what you are using or how diligent you are with the treatment. But on average it probably takes about 3 months.
And once your symptoms are gone, that is no guarantee that the Candida is completely gone. Because then you will likely want to do two things. And the results of those two things will be strong indicators about whether or not the Candida is truly gone.
First, you’ll probably discontinue your treatment. That’s logical, but if your symptoms come back when you do this, then you know that your Candida is not gone. You’ll need to continue treatment and possibly change the treatment or add to the treatment that you’ve already been doing.
The second thing that many people want to do is to add things back into their diet that they’ve been avoiding. And this is usually a carbohydrate, especially sugar.
If you do this and your symptoms, come back, then you’ll also know that the Candida is still there.
In either case, don’t beat yourself up about it. Candida is very difficult to treat, and it’s not unusual for it to not be gone as quickly as you’d like. Keep treating. You’ll get there, but it might take more time.
If you need more support and would like to know more about how I treat Candida in my patients, all of the tests out there and their strengths and weaknesses, and basically everything that I’ve learned about Candida in my career, then I encourage you to check out my course, which you can access now in the link here.
It’s all in there, and I literally guarantee that you will be impressed with everything you learn. I spent hundreds of hours making that course, and I can’t recommend it highly enough for you.
